On Tuesday we visited the Reed STEAM Lab for our final lesson with Mr. Hale. The kids had so much fun using IO blocks, Dash and Dot, and our new interactive Osmo tiles! This was our first full year having the STEAM Lab open for our K-2 students and I'd say it was a HUGE success! Big thank yous go out to Courtney (Liam's mom) and Parvaneh (Shaya's mom) for helping out in the lab this week!

We are becoming Dash and Dot pros! The students had a great intro to coding and robotics in their kindergarten year.

The Osmo system is new at Reed this year. This week the students played Osmo Numbers, which works on composing and decomposing numbers. The students use the number tiles provided to play the game on the iPad. So fun to watch how their brains work! (There's a good chance Courtney and I were more amazed by this interactive system than the students were. ;)

The final station this week was building with IO blocks. I had never seen these blocks before - they are awesome! IO Blocks are open-ended interlocking construction blocks. They come with "challenge" cards that provide the students with a design to recreate, but the students also got to use their imaginations to build their own creations.

Sing A Story with the SF Opera!

On Tuesday we had a visit from Andy - a member of the SF Opera and part of the Sing A Story program! He was hilarious and amazing! He first told the story of Hansel and Gretel, then he had the students help tell the story with costumes, props, music, the whole nine yards! The kids did an awesome job and I had so much fun watching them perform.

Being Mindful...

We have two more weeks of mindfulness lessons and the students are doing great! We are doing our best to incorporate mindfulness into our school day even when Ms. Allen isn't teaching us a lesson. Have your child lead your family in mindful breathing!

I'm 5 Months Old!

Last, but not least, Avery turned 5 months old on Saturday! Hard to believe that 5 months ago I was leaving the classroom to head to the hospital! She's a happy girl and she has been doing great with my mom and husband at home. She's taking her bottles like a champ and naps when she's supposed to (even though it's only for 30 minutes). If anyone has any advice on how to get a baby to nap for longer than 30 minutes I'm all ears!! :) Thanks for checking in this week and see you back here next week!
