Happy Sunday Room 4 Families! This week the Room 4 kiddos made the transition back from Ms. Lopez to Mrs. Bowe - and they did great! Although I miss Little Miss Avery every minute I am away from her, it was so fun to see the kids again. Thank you to everyone for all of the wonderful goodies you sent in for Teacher Appreciation week - Ms. Lopez and I are so lucky!

As you can imagine, finding time for blogging is a little trickier now since the addition of our new (and slightly high maintenance) roommate. She is currently enjoying her 4-month sleep regression and has perfected the 27 minute nap. I am watching the clock now and I have about 9 minutes before she will be waking up :) I will do my best to keep you posted on what is going on in Room 4, but I will definitely be keeping it short and sweet! Hope to see everyone soon!

Kindergarten Safety Day!

On Wednesday the Reed kindergarten classes got a special visit from the Southern Marin Paramedics, the Tiburon Fire Department, and the Tiburon Police Department.

We spent the morning learning about what our local superheroes do and how to stay safe. We got to see our favorite fire dog, Proby, and even got to sit in the back seat of a police car! Ask your child what they learned about during Safety Day! (And thank you to Angela and Ambar for volunteering and helping out all morning long!)

Mindfulness Lessons!

While I was away, Ms. Lisa Allen started visiting all of the kindergarten and 2nd grade classes at Reed. Although I have only seen one lesson, I am so excited about mindfulness in our classroom! We have 15 minute lessons every Monday and Friday. This week we practiced mindful eating. We each got 2 raisins and examined them closely. We inspected them with our eyes, watched light travel through them, listened to the sounds they made between our fingers, and noticed their smells. Then, we tried keeping the raisins in our mouths without eating them. It was such a fantastic lesson in being mindful when we eat and slowing down to enjoy the process. Ask your child to teach you something they have learned about mindfulness!

Just Keep Swimming...

As you can imagine, jumping back into teaching full-time after being home with Avery for 4 wonderful months was quite the adjustment this week. Luckily, Avery did fantastic at home with her grandma and gets to spend next week at home with her dad. (I'm pretty sure this transition has been way easier for her than it has been for me!) The students and I are picking up right where Ms. Lopez left off with writing How-To books, working on subtraction, and becoming rockstar readers for our first grade teachers. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns - looking forward to a great end of our kindergarten year! Time to get back to hanging out with this silly girl... :)  - Mrs. Bowe

A Note About Class Placements...

Dear Reed families,
As the year comes to an end, we are beginning our process of creating class placements for the 2017-18 school year. All class placements are done carefully and collaboratively by the grade level team with input from support staff, administration, and specialists. There are several factors we consider when creating balanced classes including but not limited to: academic proficiency, social and behavioral considerations, boy/girl ratio, etc. Decisions are made thoughtfully and every effort is made to create the best possible learning environment for all students.

We respectfully ask that parents do not submit requests regarding class placement.
Each new year is an opportunity for students to build and establish new friendships and classroom teachers look forward to guiding students through this process.

We are looking forward to an exciting 2017-18 school year.

Respectfully,
Mrs. Bowe & the Reed School Team
